Been there
I've been in this situation but I was the friend. Do what you think is right, but keep in mind that by dating her brother, you are making a clear statement that you are willing to jeopardize your friendship for a boy. Since she already said that it would be weird, there is not much of a chance that dating him can benefit your friendship in any way. If you ask your friend what she thinks of the situation, she may not tell you what she is really feeling. I remember thinking that if my friend was stupid enough to think that touching my brother was even remotely OK, I wasn't going to tell her otherwise. I did, however, stop wanting to spend time with her and start avoiding her whenever possible. Decide what your priorities are. --Posted by wasteofpaintx 02:34PM EST 06/28/06

Wow that's a tough one!
Well, I think that if she's really your friend she'll understand your attraction to her brother. It might be hard for her, but I think she should be all right with it. If not, then you'll probably have to decide whether you need her friendship or a boyfriend more. --Posted by pixiedust_105 07:23PM EST 06/27/06

i know how you feel
I'm dating my best friend's brother and in the begining I thought it would mess up our friendship, but it probably helped our relationship a lot. We were connected at the hip before and now that me and her brother go out we are together even more- think of it like sale at the mall, it's a two for one. Even though you have a boyfriend you won't loose any time you used to spend with your friend! --Posted by pinkprincess898 06:21PM EST 06/27/06

She probably DOES know
If she's addressed how weird it would be, she probably already knows you like him. Just talk to her honestly about it. Don't go behind her back to date him. Decide which is more important: a chance at love or loyalty to your friend. If your friend decides she's definitely not okay with you dating her brother you will have to face that choice. When you talk to her, reassure her that if you do date him you will not stop hanging out with her solo, since she may fear that you will only come over to see *him*. Also reassure her that even if things go sour between you and her brother, you will always be her FRIEND first, and her brother's ex LAST. --Posted by mordrelaballe 02:52PM EST 06/27/06

tell her how you feel
If you really really like your bestfriend's brother, then go to her house, sit down, really explain to her how you feel about him and bring him over so he can also explain how he feels for you. Soon she will understand that your relationship is very important. --Posted by darbybarbie 12:56PM EST 06/27/06

she'll understand
Don't get me wrong, initially telling her is going to be awkward and she'll probably think you're uber weird. But if you really like her brother, you should tell her and she'll understand after the shock sets in. Then, he's yours for the dating. --Posted by manthatissodumb 11:00PM EST 06/26/06

Do what you think is the right thing.
Maybe you should ask yourself which is more important- your friendship or having a boyfriend. I think you should first talk this over with the boy, just to make sure he likes you the way you think he does.
But if you don't want to ruin your friendship, then you should really talk this over with your friend just to makae sure that she is okay with you and her brother dating. Just because it will feel weird dating your best friend's brother doesn't mean you can't go out with him. Eventually things will be normal again.
If this girl is really your friend then she will be okay with this. She won't care if you dated him or not. And if you really want to go out with him, then do it. She can't stop you and neither can anybody else. ALWAYS follow your heart! --Posted by brownsuga493 10:52AM EST 06/26/06

I think.
You should always follow your heart. If you like him, then you do, and your best friend can't really change how you feel. But like i think you should have a long talk with your her and explain that you really like her brother and that you and he won't date if it's a big problem. Even if you guys don't date, I bet you will still be good friends with her brother. Have confidence. --Posted by russianjew7 10:27AM EST 06/26/06

I think.
You should always follow your heart. If you like him, then you can't help it. I mean, your best friend can't really change on how you feel about her brother. You're allowed to like whoever you want, it's a free country.
But you should have a long talk with your best friend, explain to her that you like her brother. Tell her that if it's really a problem, then you won't date, and you'll just be really good friends, just like we are right now.
Don't worry, even if you don't date, I bet you will still be good friends with her brother, everything will be fine, just believe, and have confidence. --Posted by russianjew7 10:27AM EST 06/26/06
