When it comes to applying to college, home schooled students often face a more difficult process than students from public or private schools. Most colleges require teacher recommendations, and if your teacher happens to be your mom or dad, things get a little tricky. Parents tend to gush about their kids' achievements and most schools consider them too biased to write an objective letter of recommendation. Typically, home school students have to get a letter of recommendation from an unrelated adult like a sports coach or volunteering supervisor.
Also, since many home schoolers don't get grades, they may be required to take SAT Subject Tests, which focus on specific subjects like math, history or chemistry, in addition to the standard SAT, which tests a student's reasoning and comprehension skills.
