you are here  >>> ABOUT GURL > help

gURL.com is intended for girls age 13 and up and is built on the principle that information is a positive thing. (Find out more about gURL.)

We created gURL to be an alternative to prescriptive traditional girls' magazines, and our site strives to present a variety of experiences that are relevant to teen girls. Because of this, gURL sometimes contains mature content dealing with sexuality, body image, emotions, self-destructive behavior, etc. Our honesty is part of what makes our site resonate with our audience, and has earned us acclaim and awards (see press clips about our site and our best-selling book, DEAL WITH IT!).

We recognize that not every girl is ready to deal with these issues at the same age. If your daughter is younger than our recommended age or you think she is not ready to deal with mature content at whatever age, we suggest you direct her to another site.

gURL.com and all of its services are in compliance with The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This FTC regulation restricts the personal information we can collect from individuals under the age of 13. It is important for parents to understand the laws that regulate children's activity on the internet. We recommend that you read more about COPPA.

Membership at gURL provides access to our interactive community features. We offer our members posting areas and much more. We work as hard as we can to keep the gURL community a safe and respectful space.

Anyone who joins gURL must agree to treat all other members with respect, and we enforce this basic rule in our posting boards. We monitor the boards as often as we can and encourage our members to send us email if there are any problems. However, since the boards are not monitored 24 hours a day, they can be uncensored spaces.

Here are some additional steps to take to ensure your daughter's safety on our site:
  1. Make sure she never gives out personal information on the internet.
  2. Many email services will allow her to use address blocking so that she only receives mail from people she knows.
  3. Please read gURL's internet safety page for more information.
We value the thoughts, opinions and suggestions of parents and encourage you to feel free to get in touch with us. Please email us here if you have questions for the staff.
